Public Forum Organized by Rotary Club of Kuching South

Thank you Rotary Club of Kuching South for the invitation extended to our counselor, Ms Lim Re Gal, and the organization of the creative exchange of ideas in psychology and literature. The discussion was facilitated by the moderator's humor and enriched by the professional and friendly sharing of the panelists. The key points discussed during the forum are summarized as follows:

  1. Mental health professionals (i.e., psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and counsellors) undergo academic and practical training to establish comprehensive professional capabilities. In Malaysia, these professionals are regulated by legal standards and respective codes of conduct.
  2. The three types of mental health professionals respect their clients' rights including confidentiality, nonmaleficence, beneficence, autonomy etc.
  3. Psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and counsellors form a collaborative team. They leverage their respective professional strengths, collectively dedicated to providing comprehensive and effective mental health services.
  4. Depression is a prevalent mental health issue, with many individuals experiencing this challenge at some point in their lives.
  5. Depression is a condition that can be effectively alleviated and treated through a combination of counselling, psychotherapy, medication, and social support.

What a vibrant evening of dialogue and idea exchange! We're excited about the possibilities and look forward to future collaborations with various mental health professionals.
